A project launched by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with a view to supporting the decentralized of waste
The Rabat-Salé-Kénitra (RSK) region has secured funding for its project to organize a waste collection and recovery sector in urban areas, after submitting to the call for projects "Sustainable cities in Africa Launched by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The project, initiated in partnership with the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region, will allow us to experiment with a system for sorting and collecting waste with a view to recycling it in a context of increasing urbanization of cities in Morocco, says a press release from the region. from RSK. As part of the regional development plan, this project will be launched in February 2020 and will be operational in October 2021.
Funding was obtained following the submission by the region of Rabat-Salé-Kénitra and the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region to the call for projects "Sustainable cities in Africa" for 2019, launched by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with a view to supporting the decentralized cooperation of French local authorities (CTF) and its counterparts in Africa.
The “Sustainable Cities in Africa” initiative responds to the implementation of commitments made by France in the framework of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Climate Agreement, as it operates in accordance with the objectives of the Africa-France summit planned this year under the theme of "sustainable cities".
The pilot project relating to the collection and recovery of waste in urban areas aims to achieve three major objectives, namely a better social balance through the participation, training and organization of informal waste collectors, economic development through promoting and supporting the circular economy, preserving the environment through sustainable alternatives in solid waste management and reducing industrial consumption of raw materials through recycling processes.
