Saudi Arabia opens its borders to international tourists holding Schengen visas, from the United Kingdom and the United States. The new measure has just come into force. Moroccans are concerned.
The decision had been taken at the end of September 2019 but it has just been implemented.
Saudi Arabia activated its new tourist visa system in early January. The aim is to place the tourism sector at the top of the main sources of revenue in the kingdom.
Marking the official start of this new system, the Saudi General Aviation Committee activated a clause, in coordination with national and international air carriers, aimed at facilitating the entry of holders of Schengen visas, or issued by the United Kingdom and the United States, all nationalities combined. The visas concerned are those of tourism and commerce.
The holders of these visas will therefore not be affected by the electronic visa.
A 90-day stay in one visit
Moroccans can also travel to Arabia without a visa. A Schengen visa, or issued by the United Kingdom or the United States does the job but with the following conditions:
- The visa must be used and sealed at least once by the country which issued it;
- This visa has been used and sealed at least once by the country which issued it;
- Vacationers must arrive in Saudi Arabia for a sightseeing tour.
In the latter case, they can obtain a visa at the Saudi airport, for a period of one year, multiple entries. Each stay cannot exceed 90 days.
It should be noted that these conditions are applicable to all nationalities.
Note that in September, by launching the basic "tourist visa" system, the country had restricted its application to 49 countries only, including 38 European countries. Morocco was not included.
